Skill Development

A National Skill Development Policy was launched by the Central Government in 2009 with an aim to train 50 crore persons. Under the national plan, the state of Uttar Pradesh aims to skill over 50 lakh youth by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan. Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has been restructured to achieve this goal and provide employment driven skills to the youth of the state.

Highlights of UP Skill development mission

  • 1. Under the UP Skill development mission scheme, youth are trained in fashion designing, motor vehicles, computers, electronics, electricians, fashion designing, beautician, health care etc.
  • 2. Under the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission Scheme, 283 courses in 34 sectors are imparted training.
  • 3. Along with English, computer education is also provided at all the centers.
  • 4. The age limit for getting training in any subject has been kept from 18 years to 35 years.
  • 5. UPSDM focusing its work in the state of Uttar Pradesh has given skill training option to the youth of the state who are not able to pursue education or any other skill.

Schemes & Initiatives

PMKVY

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) implemented by National Skill Development Corporation.The objective of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.

NULM

To reduce poverty of the urban poor households by enabling them to access gainful self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in an appreciable improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis of the poor. NULM aims to achieve universal financial inclusion, through opening of basic savings accounts.

DDU-GKY

DDU-GKY is thedemand-driven placement-linked skill training initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development,Government of India (MoRD), uniquely aimed at rural poor youth between 15 and 35 years of age,with the purpose to create income diversity in poor families and help rural youth realize their career aspirations. MSME

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India (GoI) has adopted the cluster development approach as a key strategy for enhancing the productivity and competitiveness as well as capacity building of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) and their collectives in the country. The government also provides subsidies, tax breaks, and technical assistance to MSMEs exporting goods.


UPSMD

To Train all eligible youth in 14-35 age group in the trades of their preference,provide facilities for acquisition and upgradation of skills of the unskilled and semi skilled workforce,enabling Provision for the vulnerable section e.g. women, pwd and minorities. 30% targets are earmarked for women; 20% for minorities,provide trainings in NSQF (National Skills Qualifications Framework) compliant courses only.


Vocational training program

Vocational training is the instructional program that prepares you for an occupation that requires a specialised skill, such as a technician, artisan or tradesperson. It may involve imparting classroom instructions, hands-on training or a combination of both. Telecommunication, Photography, Foreign Languages, Information Technology (IT), Beautician, and Hotel Management are on the top.
